MENUMBOK: The list of candidates for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming 17th State Election will be announced on November 12, three days before nomination day.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor confirmed the date when asked about several political parties planning to unveil their candidates earlier, starting this weekend.
He said while any party is free to make its announcement, GRS has set November 12 (Wednesday) as the official date to reveal its full line-up for the polls scheduled on November 29.
“We have already distributed the seats. If others want to announce theirs, they can go ahead. We’ll make our announcement later, on November 12,” he said.
Hajiji was speaking after officiating the Launch of the Kuala Penyu and Menumbok Sub-District Strategic Development Plan 2025-2035, the handover of SMJ houses, the presentation of land gazettes, and the Limus Jury Foundation aid distribution held at the Menumbok tamu site today.
Hajiji, who is also the GRS Chairman, expressed confidence in the coalition’s ability to regain the people’s mandate to govern the state after the election.
He said the confidence stems from GRS’ decision to field a strong line-up of “winnable candidates” in all contested constituencies.
“We are only fielding candidates who can win, including here in Kuala Penyu. I’ve already given a hint earlier and we are confident of victory in this election,” he said.
If re-elected, Hajiji said the GRS Government will continue implementing the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 development roadmap to ensure the continuity of Sabah’s progress and programmes.
On another matter, the Chief Minister said the proposed construction of a bridge linking the Federal Territory of Labuan with mainland Sabah should be revisited with the Federal Government.
He said the proposed bridge is crucial not only to enhance connectivity between Labuan and mainland Sabah but also to boost the local economy in Menumbok and Kuala Penyu.
