KOTA KINABALU: The Asia Triathlon Cup returns to the vibrant shores of Kota Kinabalu on November 2, following a successful inaugural event in 2023.
Fully sponsored by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS), this premier triathlon competition has quickly become a hallmark of Asia’s elite triathlon circuit and a key driver in promoting Sabah as a world-class destination for sports tourism.
The event will feature an impressive line up of 63 elite athletes, with 43 men and 20 women from 13 countries, including Japan, Australia, the United States, Great Britain, Uzbekistan, and numerous Southeast Asian nations.
Competing in an intense, multi-discipline format of swimming, cycling, and running, these athletes will not only vie for victory but also inspire and engage the local community and international visitors alike.
KePKAS Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew said the Asia Triathlon Cup is more than just a race; it is an opportunity to showcase the beauty, culture and hospitality of Sabah and to strengthen Kota Kinabalu’s position as a global sports tourism hub.
“With the eyes of the international sports community on Sabah, we are excited to once again host this world-class event that celebrates the spirit of competition and promotes our state as an adventure and nature destination,” she said.
The Asia Triathlon Cup 2024 will not only celebrate athletic excellence but will also highlight Sabah’s rich cultural heritage, biodiversity, and tourism offerings.
Liew said KePKAS aims to leverage this event to foster long-term interest in Sabah among international travelers and sports enthusiasts.
“With scenic race routes set against the stunning backdrop of the South China Sea and Kota Kinabalu’s natural landmarks, the 2024 event promises a unique experience for both participants and spectators.”
The Asia Triathlon Cup 2024 is a testament to KePKAS’s commitment to enhancing Sabah’s profile in the global sports tourism arena. As international athletes converge in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah stands ready to offer them an unforgettable journey through its landscapes and its people.
