KOTA KINABALU: With the sponsorship of ethnic cultural performances from the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS), overseas delegates will be able to see the indigenous people of Sabah and enjoy their dances during the celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of The Lung Yen Association.
KePKAS Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew said as much after a courtesy call by a delegation from the association led by Chairperson Chin Giok Ching, recently.
“We will engage the cultural dance troupe from the Sabah Cultural Board which is an agency under my ministry,” she said.
The KK-based association has more than 500 members.
Briefing the Minister on the two-day celebration (Oct 25 & 26), Chin said about 200 members of the Lung Yen communities in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and West Malaysia will come to Sabah in support of the event.
According to her, highlights of the celebration include a welcome dinner for the delegates at Kian Kok Middle School, a dragon dance performance by 15 dancers from China, a golf tournament at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club here on Oct 25 and a Chinese cuisine exhibition at the Kian Kok Middle School.
Chin said proceeds from the sale of Lung Yen culinary delights will be channelled to the school kitty.
“We expect some 1,000 people to attend the dinner celebration at the Sabah Hakka Hall on Oct 26. It will be preceded by a business meeting in the morning between delegates from China and the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) headed by Datuk Frankie Liew,” she said.
Also present were Deputy Chairman cum Organising Chairman Wong Vui Khim, Treasurer Tan Koi Fong and Committee Members Tan Hiong Jin, Chin Kay Jin and Wong Vui Kheng.
