KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew hailed the news of potential additional charter flights from China to Tawau beginning next month.
She said Batik Air has confirmed charter flights for one year from China to Tawau from three cities.
There will be three weekly flights from Pudong commencing in April, and likewise, from Chengdu starting in July, she said, adding as for Shenzhen, there will be three charter flights to Tawau in the month of June.
“We anticipate a tourism boom in Tawau.
“It will be an eye-opening experience for first-time visitors as they soak in our natural beauty and other unique attractions.
“I wish them a pleasant and enjoyable holiday in Sabah,” she said.
Liew gave credit to the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) team for its continuous effort in promoting Sabah to new destinations abroad.
In January this year, Tawau received its inaugural international flight by Firefly Airlines, connecting Nanjing, China to this east coast town.
