KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is proposing to relocate the KK Central Market out of the city centre, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He said Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) would draft a working paper on the proposal to be tabled at a Cabinet meeting later.
“The Kota Kinabalu City Hall will draft a working paper that will be tabled in the Cabinet meeting later,” he said when met after inspecting two proposed sites for the new market at Alam Mesra and along the Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road today.
Hajiji said the Mayor’s office would also make a recommendation on the future of the present KK Central Market once it is relocated.
“That is why we visited the proposed sites for the new Central Market but this is still in the early stages. If a new one is built, it would have all the amenities, bigger and better,” he said.
Earlier, Hajiji visited a 40-acre State land along Jalan UMS in Alam Mesra where the Northern Kota Kinabalu Integrated Market Hub is proposed.
He was briefed on the proposed development by Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah at the site.
Among the amenities proposed for the market hub are a dry market, wet market, cultural, local and tourism products centre, hawkers centre and fish wharf.
Hajiji also visited the second proposed site, located on mixed-commercial land belonging to the Local Government and Housing Ministry near Kampung Likas along the Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road, adjacent to Anjung Selera.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.
