Masidi Manjun
KOTA KINABALU: True leadership is measured by the positive influence one has on others and the communities they serve, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Encouraging leaders to reflect on the legacy they leave behind, Masidi emphasised that integrity is not merely a value but the cornerstone of trust and effective leadership.
“Real leadership involves making the right decisions, even when they are tough or unpopular. Leaders must avoid the temptation to take shortcuts or simply follow the crowd when faced with critical choices.
“Instead, they should have the courage to prioritise what is best for their organisations and the people they serve, even if it means challenging higher authorities,” he stated.
He further highlighted that integrity is the key factor that distinguishes thriving organisations from those that fail.
Speaking to nearly 1,000 delegates from Malaysia and beyond at the 2024 JCI Malaysia National Convention General Assembly, Masidi also praised the young leaders in attendance for their dedication to driving meaningful change. He reminded them that leadership transcends titles and positions.
“Leadership is about actively pursuing opportunities to make a difference and stepping up when it matters most,” he added.
Masidi noted that today’s world, with its complex social, economic and environmental challenges, requires leaders who are innovative, empathetic and dedicated to creating solutions that benefit everyone.
He urged leaders to build a legacy based on integrity, compassion and a deep sense of responsibility toward their communities.
