KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Moto Day 9.0 is not merely a motorcycling event, but also carries an important message for the motorcycling community to always prioritise discipline, safety, responsibility and sportsmanship.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the programme, now in its ninth edition, had grown into a platform bringing together young people, the motorcycling community, entrepreneurs, government agencies and various other parties in a spirit of friendship and camaraderie.
He said participation in the programme continued to increase each year, involving not only motorcycling enthusiasts from across Sabah, but also from Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia and Brunei.
He said the development demonstrated that Sabah Moto Day had successfully become a platform for meeting and building a wider motorcycling community network, not only at State level but also across regions and borders.
“The spirit we want from the motorcycling community is to always prioritise discipline, safety, responsibility and sportsmanship.
“Show that the motorcycling community is a responsible community that respects other road users and always complies with the law,” he said at the Youth Motorcycling Programme (Sabah Moto Day 9.0) at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex grounds, here, today. His speech was delivered by Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib.
Hajiji said roads should not be used as racing circuits, adding that the interest, talent and desire to race should instead be channelled through legitimate, safe and organised platforms.
He said the strength of Sabah Moto Day was that the programme did not focus solely on motorcycling activities, but also highlighted five main pillars aimed at developing young Sabahans who are active, knowledgeable, competitive, united and free from negative influences.
“The State Government takes seriously efforts to ensure young people have healthy and positive spaces to gather, create, engage in sports and develop their potential.
“We are not merely bringing together machines and motorcycling enthusiasts, but bringing together the spirit, talent and potential of young people,” he said.
Hajiji also urged all riders and participants to turn their interest in motorcycling into a positive force by becoming disciplined, mature and responsible riders.
He also called for all activities to be conducted in a peaceful, safe and harmonious environment filled with positive activities.
Hajiji also hoped participants from outside Sabah would not only enjoy the vibrancy of Sabah Moto Day, but also take the opportunity to explore and visit the State’s attractions.
He said this would bring greater benefits to youths, the community, economy and Sabah’s tourism sector.
