KOTA KINABALU: The Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) places great importance on collaborating with civil society organisations to promote activities with cultural and social value, said its Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
Speaking at the FCAS Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration & International Dragon Boat Race Appreciation Dinner here Monday, she said for many years, the Federation has played a vital role in promoting cultural activities, education and social services.
“We believe that only through joint efforts between the government and community organisations can we continuously attract tourists, stimulate the local economy and at the same time, strengthen community cohesion and the spirit of unity.
“The Federation has always been a strong partner of the Government in fostering social harmony and multicultural exchanges,” said Liew.
The Minister expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Tan Sri T C Goh, FCAS will remain a key force in promoting cultural heritage and social unity.
“Your successful hosting of the 10th Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race this year has once again brought glory to Sabah. This event brought together teams from both Sabah and the international arena, not only showcasing the unique charm of Chinese culture but also enhancing Sabah’s cultural atmosphere and boosting tourism.
“The spirit of dragon boat racing emphasises unity, teamwork, and mutual support — exactly the spirit we need to drive community and state development. Through this event, everyone worked hand-in-hand, regardless of ethnicity, to contribute to the cultural and economic progress of Sabah, a contribution that deserves great recognition,” Liew said.
On the Mid-Autumn Festival, she said it not only symbolises reunion and harmony, but also represents gratitude and unity.
“This kind of celebration is not only a continuation of cultural traditions but also reflects the solidarity and warmth within the community.”
In his address, Goh paid tribute to the Minister for her unwavering commitment and support during her tenure from 2023 to 2025.
“FCAS is fortunate to have (Datuk Seri) Christina’s support all the way and this contributed to the success of our events such as the International Dragon Boat Race and other cultural activities,” he said.
Also present was the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen.
