KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has hit back at accusations by Parti Warisan leader Terrence Siambun, describing his allegations of corruption involving party leaders as “reckless, misleading and politically motivated.”
PBS Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said Terrence’s statement distorted facts and twisted remarks made out of context in an attempt to create a false narrative for political mileage.
“Confirming that a video is genuine does not mean admitting guilt. Authenticity and wrongdoing are two very different things,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Joachim said his remark — “We never asked him, he gave it first” — was deliberately taken out of context to mislead the public.
“What I meant was clear: no one from PBS solicited or demanded any money. To spin that statement into an ‘admission of bribery’ is dishonest and malicious,” he said.
He stressed that there was no evidence whatsoever to suggest abuse of power or personal gain by any elected representative.
“Political donations are not illegal when made transparently and in good faith. It is wrong and irresponsible to equate every contribution to a party as corruption,” he said, adding that any donations to PBS were handled in accordance with party procedures.
Dr Joachim said Terrence’s repeated demands for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) action were “baseless provocations” meant to pressure authorities and influence public perceptio
He said Terrence is engaging in “textbook political spinning” by ignoring context and portraying assumptions as facts.
“Sabahans deserve truth, not theatrics. His so-called exposé is nothing more than a political performance meant to attack PBS and destabilise the current leadership,” he added.
Dr Joachim reaffirmed that PBS remains committed to transparency, accountability and political stability, calling on all parties to focus on governance and development rather than personal attacks.
“Sabah will not move forward through slander and speculation. The people want leaders who build, not those who destroy,” he said.
