KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has reaffirmed its commitment to political stability and unity among local parties, describing the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition as the most credible and effective platform for the state’s continued progress.
Acting PBS President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the party remains steadfast in its belief that only through stability and cooperation can Sabah achieve sustainable growth and safeguard its autonomy within the Federation of Malaysia.
“In the midst of shifting political alignments, PBS stands firm in its conviction that GRS is the right platform for Sabahans to rally behind,” said Dr Joachim in a statement today.
He noted that over the past year, the GRS-led Government had recorded tangible achievements — including stronger fiscal management and accelerated progress in implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Through constructive partnership with the Federal Government and cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH), Sabah has received wider fiscal space, larger budget allocations, and unprecedented attention to its development needs. The pace of MA63 implementation today is far better and faster than under previous administrations,” he said.
Dr Joachim said the stability under GRS has allowed the state to focus on core priorities such as economic development, revenue enhancement, and strengthening financial reserves for future generations.
“Our collaboration with the Federal Government is not one of dependency, but of mutual respect and partnership. There has been no interference in Sabah’s affairs; instead, what we have built is a healthy relationship that prioritises the well-being of the people and the autonomy of our state,” he stressed.
As the longest-standing local political party in Sabah, Joachim said PBS had gone through every phase of political life — enduring hardships, celebrating successes, and learning lessons that have deepened its commitment to the people.
“We have learned that hard confrontation will not move us forward. What will bring Sabah to the next level are mature negotiations, professional dialogue, and sincere cooperation among all parties who truly love this land,” he added.
Calling on all Sabahans and PBS supporters to remain united, Dr Joachim urged them to continue backing the GRS government that has “proven its sincerity and effectiveness.”
“Together, we can give GRS a strong and decisive mandate in the coming state election so that the vision of a prosperous, dignified, and self-reliant Sabah will continue to move forward,” he said.
