Hajiji announcing the dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the Sabah Government’s holistic and inclusive Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan has driven the state’s transformation over the past five years, bringing tangible change and growth to the people.
“Over the past five years, we have worked tirelessly to bring meaningful change and growth to the state and its people,” Hajiji said, adding that the Government had guided Sabah’s progress through the SMJ framework since taking over in September 2020.
He said the SMJ Plan, anchored on three core pillars — Agriculture, Industry and Tourism; Human Capital and People’s Welfare; and Infrastructure Development and Green Sustainability — had delivered real results across the state.
Hajiji said his administration had taken bold and responsible steps to address long-standing issues, particularly in water and electricity supply and critical infrastructure.
“Concrete actions and major projects are underway to resolve these legacy challenges that have burdened the people for too long. Some initiatives have been completed, while others are progressing steadily toward completion,” he said.
During the current term, Sabah’s economy has strengthened, new investments have been secured to create jobs, and education and social wellbeing have been enhanced for communities throughout the state.
“These achievements were possible because of the people’s trust, support, and shared vision for a better Sabah,” Hajiji added.
He stressed that while much progress had been made, the work was far from complete.
“New challenges demand bold solutions, and we are ready to lead Sabah into its next chapter. As this term concludes, we seek the people’s renewed mandate to continue the progress we have begun — building a stronger, more prosperous and united Sabah for all,” he said.
Earlier, Hajiji announced the dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the 17th State Election.
He said he had sought an audience with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun (Dr) Musa Haji Aman, this morning to advise for the dissolution of the Assembly as its five-year term nears its end.
“With the gracious consent of Tuan Yang Terutama Tun, the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved effective today, Monday, 6 October 2025. This paves the way for the 17th Sabah State Election, empowering the people of Sabah to exercise their democratic right to decide who will govern them,” he said at a press conference held at Menara Kinabalu.
Hajiji said the decision reflected the Government’s firm commitment to democracy and the constitutional process, adding that he hoped the election outcome would strengthen the people’s voice, safeguard stability and security, and ensure continued progress for the state.
“Together, let us move forward with confidence and purpose,” he said.
