KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has expressed hope that the people of Sabah, including the Chinese community, will continue to support the present State Government in its efforts to further develop the state.
“The current State Government will continue to drive development because it is our duty to give the best to the people,” he said at the 2025 Pesta Tanglung celebration at the Putra Ballroom, Bukit Padang, here tonight. His speech was delivered by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
Hajiji said the State Government deeply values the contributions and dedication of the Chinese community in advancing Sabah’s development.
“Therefore, let us continue to preserve and strengthen this unity and make Sabah an example of how diversity can be a force that unites us all.
“In the spirit of this celebration, let us renew our commitment to working together for the progress of Sabah,” he said.
He stressed that Sabah stands as a shining example for Malaysia in preserving multi-ethnic harmony.
“With more than 30 ethnic groups, we live in an environment of mutual respect. This diversity is a blessing that makes Sabah truly special. The harmony we enjoy is not by chance, but the result of the spirit of togetherness, tolerance, and respect practised by every Sabahan.
“This spirit is evident in the way we celebrate various festivals such as Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, and Christmas together.
“Therefore, Sabah’s cultural diversity must continue to be celebrated by everyone, regardless of race or religion. This diversity, including festivals like the Lantern Festival, has united the people of this state to live in peace and harmony. This is the uniqueness and strength of Sabah,” he said.
Hajiji assured that the State Government will continue to promote unity through various programmes and initiatives, though such efforts require the support of all parties, including non-governmental organisations and community leaders.
“Therefore, I hope the people of this state will remain united and not be easily swayed by baseless narratives spread by irresponsible parties,” he added.
The Chief Minister also said the State Government has rolled out various programmes to boost the economy of both the people and the state.
“Beyond that, other areas such as education, human capital development, and the wellbeing of the people are also key priorities of the State Government.
“We know there are challenges to address, including those inherited from previous administrations, such as water and electricity supply.
“However, the current government will continue to do its best to resolve these issues through both long-term and short-term initiatives. What matters most is the support of the people so that Sabah can continue to prosper within Malaysia,” he said.
