LAHAD DATU: POIC Sdn Bhd has embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in collaboration with the Emergency Unit of Lahad Datu Specialist Hospital, aimed at strengthening healthcare services for both the local community and foreign investors operating at the POIC Lahad Datu industrial park.
The strategic partnership was formalised in a meeting attended by POIC Group Chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, Lahad Datu District Officer Firuz Idzualdeen @ Benetty Mohd Zul, Hospital Deputy Director II Dr Guhan Ethirajulu, Emergency Physician and Head of Department Emergency and Trauma Dr Muis Takim, POIC board members and hospital officials.
The proposed CSR programme underscores POIC’s commitment to community care and social responsibility, while at the same time reinforcing Lahad Datu’s readiness to host global investors.
Through the initiative, POIC and its investors will contribute towards the implementation of programmes spearheaded by the hospital’s Emergency Unit. These will focus on five main areas: emergency response capacity building, infrastructure and equipment support, community and workforce health, environmental and disaster preparedness, and public awareness education.
A detailed list of requirements will be prepared by the hospital’s Emergency Unit and submitted to POIC for follow-up action.
Under the collaboration model, contributions from POIC and its investors will be pooled into a CSR Emergency Fund, while the hospital’s Emergency Unit will oversee training, medical protocols and programme implementation.
“This collaboration is designed to enhance industrial safety, ensure faster emergency responses and build greater trust within the community,” said Yong.
“It will also add value to POIC Lahad Datu industrial park, making it an even more attractive destination for international investors.”
