KOTA KINABALU: The Chinese business community has reaffirmed its full confidence in the Sabah Government, with chambers of commerce actively establishing Women’s and Youth divisions to nurture future leaders for both business and society.
Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau said the Chinese community has long played an active role in the state’s development and is ready to continue doing so.
“With the formation of Women’s and Youth divisions, more next-generation entrepreneurs and social leaders will be nurtured,” he said.
Lau stressed that as long as the Government continues providing opportunities, the community will shoulder its responsibility in grooming leaders and in realising the vision: ‘This is our home, we are all children of Sabah, let us protect it together.’
Speaking at the Get-Together Dinner with the Chinese Community, Education and Non-Islamic Religious Groups at Hakka Hall here last night, Lau highlighted the state’s progress under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s leadership.
He noted Sabah’s revenue nearly doubled from RM4.2 billion in 2019 to RM7 billion in 2023, while the state also secured RM10.9 billion in approved foreign investments in the first quarter of this year, ranking third nationwide after Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
“These achievements deserve resounding applause from the people,” Lau said, adding that industrialisation efforts have driven economic growth and created over 150,000 jobs, bringing the unemployment rate down to 6.2%, the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also expressed gratitude for the Government’s continuous support to the Chinese community, non-Islamic religious bodies, and vernacular education groups, with annual allocations reaching RM70 million this year.
