Fredian Gan
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Supreme Council member Datuk Fredian Gan has come out strongly in support of PBS Acting President and Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, following allegations linking him to the Sabah mining licence controversy.
Describing the claims published by Malaysiakini as part of a “coordinated and politically motivated smear campaign”, Fredian said the accusations were aimed at undermining Sabah’s leadership and discrediting PBS.
“I stand unwaveringly with Dr Joachim. These baseless allegations lack credible evidence and are clearly part of an orchestrated attempt to tarnish PBS leadership. Dr Joachim has a solid record of public service, integrity, and transparency,” said Fredian.
He also raised concern over the growing political fallout, which has now extended to former Federal minister and long-serving PBS leader, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
“It is deeply troubling that a respected statesman like DSP Maximus Ongkili—who has devoted decades to public service—is being implicated without just cause. This appears to be a targeted effort not only against individuals but against the very foundation of PBS and governance in Sabah.”
Fredian also voiced his full support for PBS Deputy President Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim, who was similarly named in the media without substantiated evidence.
He urged PBS members, GRS coalition partners, and the people of Sabah to remain calm, united, and focused on the bigger picture.
“This is not the time to be swayed by speculation or driven by sensationalist headlines. PBS remains committed to serving the people of Sabah and will not be derailed by those attempting to divide us.”
Fredian called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the scandal.
“Let the MACC do its job. We welcome any lawful investigation—but reject politically manipulated narratives. Until proven otherwise, our leaders deserve the presumption of innocence.”
Fredian also echoed the concerns raised by Deputy Chief Minister I and StarSabah President, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who described the scandal as a well-orchestrated attempt to destabilise the GRS State Government ahead of the upcoming state election.
“Sabahans must rally behind the Chief Minister and the State Government in defending Sabah’s rights. This controversy appears to be more than just an attack on individuals—it’s an attack on our state’s stability and autonomy. We cannot allow outside interests to undermine the rights and voices of the people of Sabah.”
