KOTA KINABALU: Sabah should harness its strong bilateral ties with China to deepen cooperation across key sectors and drive mutual growth, said Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (Sabah Chapter) Women Entrepreneurs Section Deputy Chairperson Yee Tsai Yiew.
Speaking after joining the China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA) Committee Delegation Visit to Beijing and Hebei from June 14 to 21, Yiew underscored the value of cross-border exchanges in shaping development strategies.
The visit was organised by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China.
Yiew, who also serves as Special Officer to the Chief Minister, said the experience offered valuable insights into China’s development model and policy direction, which could serve as a reference point for Sabah—especially in expanding its downstream industry potential.
“Sabah’s local industry players, entrepreneurs, and business community can unlock greater opportunities by exploring strategic collaborations,” she said. “This includes technology transfer, youth talent development, SME partnerships, and educational exchange—all essential for boosting Sabah’s competitiveness and global connectivity.”
She stressed the importance of tapping into China’s openness and its strong commitment to international cooperation.
“By embracing this spirit of collaboration, Sabah can accelerate industry transformation and broaden its international engagement,” she added.
Yiew also highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a transformative framework, describing it as both a global connector and a platform for participating countries to work together on infrastructure, cultural exchange, and economic development.
