KOTA KINABALU: The Creative Event Design – Event Design Certificate (EDC) Level 3 Programme was funded by the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS).
It was organised by Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) at its premises, recently.
KePKAS in a statement said this programme was aimed at enhancing the professionalism and creativity of Sabah’s Business Events (BE) industry by equipping local event professionals with world-class skills in event design and strategy.
This followed a meeting between KePKAS Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew and SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki to discuss programmes that are aligned with Sabah’s strategy to position itself as a premier business events destination.
They concurred that a thriving business events industry has a ripple effect on Sabah’s economy, benefiting various sectors, including hospitality, transportation and retail.
They believe in capacity building and call for more such programmes to upskill participants’ knowledge on how to develop advanced event design skills by overcoming obstacles, leading teams through strategic event planning tools, prototyping event narratives, and applying the Event Canvas Methodology to showcase event value.
“The Minister has given her full commitment to this program to ensure sustainable tourism and economic growth, strengthening Sabah’s position as a premier destination for innovative and culturally rich business events.
“By investing in talent development, the programme ensures that Sabah remains competitive in attracting international and domestic events, thereby driving long-term benefits for the state’s tourism and event sectors,” said the statement.
According to the statement, the Ministry aimed to empower local event professionals with cutting-edge skills in creative event design, ensuring they could compete on an international scale as certified event designers (CED).
“The EDC programme provided participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to design impactful events, fostering innovation and creativity within the industry.”
It was facilitated by Ruud Janssen, one of the creators of the Event Canvas Methodology.
