LABUAN: The Labuan Golf Club (LGC) successfully hosted the 9th Senior Men’s Open Tournament on January 7 and 8, uniting 110 veteran golfers from Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
This two-day event not only showcased exceptional golfing talent but also reaffirmed Labuan’s position as a premier destination for sports and leisure.
With over 60 participants from neighbouring states and 30 traveling from Brunei, the tournament highlighted the unifying power of golf, fostering camaraderie among players and supporters. The competition featured a cumulative two-day format, crowning top performers in overall gross and nett categories, as well as winners across specific age brackets.
Tournament Highlights
Overall Gross Champion: Moksin Jinaidi (Pantai Mentiri Golf Club)
Overall Nett Champion: Har Sai Kong (Mount Kinabalu Golf Club)
55–60 Years Winner: Eddy Lim Yin Ping (Kelab Golf Kudat)
61–66 Years Winner: Zaini Ajamain (Kinabalu Golf Club)
67–69 Years Winner: Laudin Hj Sundang (Kinabalu Golf Club)
70+ Years Winner: Haji Momin Hj Shawal (Pantai Mentiri Golf Club)
A special recognition was given to 87-year-old Datuk Kula Jamudin, the tournament’s oldest participant. His enduring passion for the sport served as an inspiration to all.
The event aligned with Labuan’s 5S strategy to promote sports tourism, encouraging seniors to maintain active lifestyles while fostering inter-club and regional relationships. Labuan’s serene landscapes and world-class golfing facilities proved once again to be a major draw, attracting participants from across the region.
Beyond the sport, the tournament delivered a significant economic boost to Labuan. The influx of visitors contributed to local hotel bookings, restaurant patronage and retail spending, demonstrating the cascading benefits of hosting high-profile events on the island.
In his closing remarks, Golf Captain and Tournament Director Hong Lay Kiong expressed gratitude to the participants and sponsors who made the tournament a success.

Events like this inspire seniors to stay active, enjoy the game and create lasting memories together.
