KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has agreed to maintain the exemption of the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) surcharge for the period from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025, by allocating a fund of RM50.9 million, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
This exemption applies to domestic consumers with electricity consumption of 1,500 kWh or less (or a monthly electricity bill of approximately RM677) and non-domestic consumers in the low-voltage tariff category (CM1 and ID1), which also includes Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
He said that to give the surcharge exemption, the State Government would allocate an ICPT subsidy of RM50.9 million.
“The State Government has also requested a fuel subsidy totalling RM278 million from the Federal Government for this purpose, which is necessary due to the increase in energy generation costs resulting from the rise in fuel prices influenced by global impacts,” he said.
The State Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister made the decision earlier this month.
The Chief Minister said the subsidy to Sabah Electricity and public license holders would benefit 693,834 consumers or 99 per cent of the total electricity consumers in Sabah.
For other categories of consumers (domestic users with electricity consumption exceeding 1,500 kWh and non-domestic consumers with medium voltage or large users, as well as public street lighting), the surcharge rate would remain at 4.06 sen/kWh.
