KOTA KINABALU: Sabah and Sarawak will streamline the terms and conditions of the Sabah-Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) and Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (Sarawak-MM2H), respectively, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister (KePKAS) Datuk Christina Liew.
Speaking at the Welcome Banquet for delegates of the 7th Global Longchuan Association Fellowship Conference cum Longchuan Industrial Development Investment Promotion Conference here last night, she said for the purpose, she will meet with the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah soon.
“We will discuss the matter to achieve a consensus on certain aspects such as deposit payment for participation in the programme,” said Liew.
On another development, the Minister said Malaysian tour and travel agents are promoting China tours (to prominent cities in the Republic) among Malaysians in the ongoing Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Kuala Lumpur.
“This Fair has entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for its record participation of 1590 exhibition booths, the largest thus far.”
About 500 delegates from China (including leaders and officials from the Longchuan County), Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, West Malaysia, and Sarawak attended the banquet hosted by KePKAS at the Pacific Sutera Hotel, here.
“As Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, I warmly welcome fellow Longchuan compatriots from various parts of the world to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Do find the time to visit our beautiful islands, sample our fresh and succulent seafood as well as experience our local culture,” said Liew. “If you can’t make it this time around, come again next year. Sabah welcomes you.”
Congratulating the organisers, she noted that this was the first time the conference was being held outside of China, co-organised by the Federation of Malaysia Longchuan Association and United Sabah Longchuan Association.
“I thank Dr Ng Waikuen (Chairman of The Global Conference of The World Longchuan Association of Fellow Townsmen) and the Directors, and Peter Chong Su Leong (President, Federation of Malaysia Longchuan Association) for choosing to hold this seventh conference in Sabah,” Liew said.
This is most timely, given that this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and China, she added.
Earlier, on behalf of the Co-Organising Committee, Chong expressed his appreciation to the Minister for sponsoring the banquet.
