KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew led the Sabah team of tourism players to participate in the just-concluded EventXpo in conjunction with the Malaysia Business Events Week 2024 (MBEW 2024) held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here.
The inaugural EventXpo 2024 was organised by the Malaysia Association of Conferences, Exhibitions and Suppliers (MACEOS).
“I am here to support the participation of the Sabah Convention Bureau (SCB) which is making its debut at this EventXpo. The Bureau has invited members of MACEOS Sabah Chapter to participate under the Sabah Pavilion,” said Liew who was accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Josie Lai.
SCB is a newly-created agency under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS).
MACEOS Sabah Chapter members participating under the Sabah Pavilion comprised Hello Sabah Events (Sri Pelancongan Sabah), Sounds Tech Production, Borneo Excursions, Xplore Sabah, Kinabalu Heritage Travel, AEI Wellness, Firm Horizon Sdn Bhd, Amazing Borneo, Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu, Discovery Tours, and Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
The Minister and Permanent Secretary were welcomed by SCB Chief Executive Officer Noredah Othman and representatives from Sabah’s participating groups when the duo visited the Sabah Pavilion. Among those present were Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Tay Shu Lan, SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki, AEI Wellness Chief Executive Officer Cleopatra Lajawai, Sri Pelancongan Sabah Chief Operating Officer Fidelis Francis Andam and Borneo Excursions Senior Marketing Manager Pauline Chin.
The three-day EventXpo showcased all aspects of business event management, inviting visitors and participants to discover innovative solutions, connecting with industry experts, and drawing inspiration for their next corporate event.
“I understand that almost 100 appointments were secured at the Sabah Pavilion, and this signified positive development. EventXpo was a great opportunity for tourism players and product exhibitors to gain exposure and explore business networking opportunities for economic growth,” said Liew.
MBEW2024, an annual flagship event by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), was launched by Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s (Motac) Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism) Dr Yasmeen Yasim.
