KOTA KINABALU: Religious tolerance is a fundamental cornerstone of Sabah’s prevailing multiracial unity, says Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
She said this is because there is mutual respect and understanding in religion among Malaysians in the state, and they appreciate the values of peace and harmony.
“The hallmark of Sabah is its harmonious co-existence of people from diverse races and religions, making the state a brilliant example of unity in diversity.
“In fact, national leaders have exhorted Malaysians to take the cue from Sabah from the perspective of solidarity which, I believe, is a source of inspiration to fellow Malaysians from the Peninsula.
“It is this peace and harmony that ensures national stability which is so crucial as it holds the key to socio-economic growth and development,” she said in her Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.
The Minister stressed that we must maintain social harmony so that future generations can continue to enjoy living in a peaceful environment.
Liew said the Hari Raya festive season is a time to promote concord, and strengthen the bond of friendship and unity among the different racial and ethnic groups.
“I wish everyone from the Muslim community ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” she added.
