Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH 1)
KOTA KINABALU: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 1, here, will be used to exclusively treat Covid-19 patients following a rise in the number of cases in the State lately.
Non-Covid-19 patients, on the other hand, would be transferred out to QEH 2 in Luyang, Sabah Health Director Dr Rose Nani Mudin said.
“We are preparing a contingency plan whereby QEH will only be used to manage Covid-19 patients,” said Dr Rose when met after inspecting the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here, Saturday.
SICC was appointed by the Government as the venue for the integrated mega Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas) for industrial workers, which involved two private health care organisations.
Sabah’s Covid-19 cases hit a new four-digit high of 1,066 cases on Friday. Now the tunnel hallway at QEH has been used as a transit point for the patients to QEH 2, which is located 5km apart.
“That is only for transit patients…” Dr Rose said, responding to a video clip claiming that QEH has converted its open space into a Covid-19 ward.
“Before the ambulance sends the patients to QEH 2, of course, we have to put them somewhere, I went there to check yesterday (Friday) and the medical team has managed the place well.
“This is a contingency plan before there is an overflow of patients, we try to transfer non-Covid-19 patients to QEH2 so this QEH is for Covid-19 patients only,” said Dr Rose. – NST
