KOTA KINABALU: Abdul Rahman Laman is the new and 8th State Chief Scout Commissioner of the Scouts Association of Malaysia Sabah Branch effective July 1 this year.
Abdul Rahman received his appointment from the Chief Minister of Sabah who is also the de facto State Chief Scout of Sabah, Hajiji Haji Noor, on 28 June 2021.
Abdul Rahman is currently the General Manager of Korperasi Serbaguna SANYA Berhad (KOSAN) and was the former Deputy Permanent Secretary II for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah.
Born on 12 February 1957, he has served in various capacities such as preparing the Sabah Contingent athletes for the BIMP-EAGA Games, Borneo Games, Malaysia Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, organised the Sabah Games (SAGA), Borneo Games and BIMP-EAGA Games, coordinate the preparation of the Sabah Strategic Development Plan for Sports, and the Secretariat Head of the SUKMA Sabah Contingent for the SUKMA XVIII Perlis 2014, XVII KL 2013, XV Pahang 2012, XVI KL 2011, XIII Melaka 2010, XII Terengganu 2008, XI Kedah 2006 and X Negeri Sembilan 2004.
He received various State awards such as the Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and the last award was the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK) in 2013.
In the Scouting scene, Abdul Rahman has been a member since 1967 when he joined the Cub Scout pack at SK Buit Hill, Putatan.
He then served as the Chairman for the Rover C Crew of Kota Kinabalu in 1982, appointed as the Secretary of the State Scout Council in 2011, even appointed as the “Unit Commissioner” of the Narranangset Council, Boy Scout of America, Rhode Island, USA when he was studying there in 1997, and his last appointment was the Chairman of the Sabah Baden Powell Guild (BPG) from 2015-2019.
Abdul Rahman has participated in various national and international Scouting events such as the 1st World Community Development Camp (COMDECA) at Jawa Barat, Indonesia in 1993, Asia Pacific Region (APR) Scout Conference in 1995, Thailand and the 21st World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Parks, Chelmford, Essex in London, UK in 2007.
